The Maui Flute Choir is delighted to be performing again at the Maui Country Club. The ensemble, founded in 2011 by flutist Peggy Schecter, is comprised of 9 members, who will be playing piccolos, flutes, Alto flute, and Bass flute (on cello). Also heard in the concert will be piano, harpsichord, oboe and percussion. The program will feature works by Bach, Quantz, Fauré, Gounod, Zempleni and Johnny Mandel.
The flutists are: Annie Brewer, Anthea Tanouye, Donna Campanella, Katie van Dyk, Kristi Edwards, Mary Johnson, Momo Kitagawa, Peggy Schecter, and Ron Schecter (playing the Bass flute part on cello). Jeremiah Jacinto, percussionist, will join the group in the jazzy “Shadow of Your Smile”, the final work on the concert. Anthea Tanouye will play oboe in Bach’s “Sheep May Safely Graze”.

The Kahului School String Orchestra and the Maui Flute Choir will join all MYPO students in a Can Can Festival by Jacques Offenbach, arranged by Todd Parrish.

The Maui Flute Choir offered an open rehearsal at Peggy’s music studio in Kula. The flute choir opened with “Oh, Little Apple” (aka Russian Sailors’ Dance), arranged by Ervin Monroe, followed by 3 selections from “Five Pieces for Flute Choir” composed by Genevieve Fritter.
Darius Soo Hoo, Angela Yasutomi, and Lauralei Singsank then gave outstanding solo performances, accompanied on piano by Peggy Schecter. The program concluded with the flute choir performing the playful “Little Red Monkey”, composed by Jack Jordan and arranged by Kathy Farmer.

The Maui Flute Choir performed at the Maui Coffee Attic in Wailuku with the Seattle-based Circle of Flutes flute choir. Special guest artist Katrina Thomas, percussionist, joined us on two pieces.
